“If you get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done.”

Hey guys!

Welcome to The desi kheere podcast.

In this episode we talked about goals and which are on:

Goals

  • Individual
  • Family
  • Societal
  • Country
  • World

A goal is important to an individual only if it is set at the right difficulty level. Moving on we discussed about the types of goals.

Goals are of three types:

  • Short term
  • Intermediate
  • Long term

For your goals you need:

  • Inspiration
  • Feedback

This lead to a conversation about how continuous feedback could help you achieve your goals?

What a basic understanding of human psychology tells is that if you receive a reward for doing a task that you want to do, a feedback loop could help by triggering the reward system of your brain.

For example, I did not like to code one bit but by gamifying the experience a website gave me a certain amount of xP (basically a reward) for every sum I solved which helped prolong my stay at the site and actually learn something new.

Moving on we talked about the fact that if you know what your desired end state is, then your inspiration will help you get that push when you feel stuck.

What are goals at family level?

They may be very different for different people and a lot depends on context and financial situation and you need to take everyone together and not think of it as an individual for once.

Here we are talking about the people we love, who took care of us and thus by keeping this in mind that this is a two way street and need to understand that a bit of compromise might be needed from both parties.

Thus, negotiating is an important part of our lives.

Global Level Goals:

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries — developed and developing — in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth — all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

You can read a bit about them here: https://sdgs.un.org/goals

How to manage after you feel shitty for not accomplishing something you set your mind to?

Basically how you handle yourself after you realize maybe you are on the wrong path or maybe you realized that the goal that you made is not aligning with your oneself?

You need to be aware of your own limitations and acknowledge them while setting/pursuing a goal.

You need to align your inner self to your goals and be one with it.

Your goal should have a personal connection with you.

Talking about goals we moved on to distractions:

  • External: They may not be in your hands
  • Internal: You can control them but its painful

External: Family issues, poverty?

Internal: Your phone, TV

Thus, we need to curb our desires and help us get to our best versions of ourselves.

WE NEED TO :

  • MAKE A GOAL
  • WRITE THEM GOALS DOWN
  • TURN UP EVERYDAY
  • PUT IN THE HARD YARDS
  • You’ll get what you deserve :)

“Give your mind a direction to move in and channelize your inner self, and don’t be to hard on yourself”
